Who’s First?

Tuesday, September 12th, 2006

(Matthew 10:28-42) With today’s devotional passage being almost identical to yesterdays, it would seem that I there is even more emphasis needed on putting God before all things. I can easily see how it would be easy to put someone you care for above God. It is layed out very clearly in the Scripture that the importance of those in your life is to begin with God, then you spouse, then your family, then others and the church. There is a devine reason for this that causes a trickle down effect, really an overflowing of God’s love on down. (Luke 7:36-50) A quick note for today. It’s amazing how especially as men our logic gets in the way. The kind of love that Christ calls us to is really beyond what logic can understand. When the sinful woman wept at Jesus feet and washed them with her tears Simon the Pharisee began using his logic to make judgement about who Christ was. In those times the religious figures didn’t associate with people like that woman, so logic would deduce that Christ wasn’t who he said he was. However, what Jesus offered was forgiveness, and that forgiveness and love went against the norm of that time, and usually against norms in general.

Promises Kept

Monday, August 7th, 2006

(Joshua 1:1-18) There are at least two promises at work in this passage. One comes from God and the other comes from some of the Isrealites. One promise was being fullfilled and that was the promise by a group of the Isrealites to go on with the others to fight.
