The State of The World is Due to The State of Our Church?

Wednesday, June 6th, 2007

(1 Timothy 2:3-8)…In 1 Timothy men are being called to prayer. If you read much of callings given to the church in Scripture there is a lot that is directed towards the men of the church. There have also been many studies done to show that men have become the minority in churches, especially in leadership. Are the Christian men of today failing in what they’re called to be and do by God? Is it because of this great lack of men stepping up to God’s calling that our world is in such a wreck. Are we as men failing our families? Our first step in correcting our state as men should be in prayer, for forgiveness for not doing what we are called to do, and for guidance as we begin to correct our mistakes.

Religion Alone is Not Enough

Thursday, September 7th, 2006

(1 Samuel 4:1-11) In today’s passage the Isrealites lost the Ark of the Covenant in battle. Why did this happen? The Isrealites were trying to use religion to solve their problem and get what they wanted. They were on the right tracking with feeling that it was something spiritual that was wrong, however it’s not religion alone that saves it’s a personal relationship with Christ. At that time Christ wasn’t here but religion alone still wasn’t the answer.

The Word As Our Guide

Thursday, June 8th, 2006

(Exodus 15:19-21) In today’s reading we find a few interesting things. We find a woman who is a prophet, she uses percussion in the music, and she dances before the Lord. What’s the big deal? Well let’s ask those churches who seem to forbid all three. It amazes me how even as Christians we decided to pick and choose what parts of the Bible we want to believe. The truth of His Word does not come from finding a way to see it how we want to see it. His truth comes from taking the entire Bible and it’s message into account. We can so easily begin to scrutinize, in detail, every passage and word of the Scriptures. Well it is not bad to look at Scripture in detail, we must also step back and look at the big picture. When churches begin to become so legalistic that their “rules” are not even Biblical, then this will ultimately serve to hurt the overall message. We need to always be careful how we share with others God’s truth.

Where Are The Hands?

Monday, May 8th, 2006

(1 Corinthians 12:1-31) That title might seem very odd, but it comes from the very passages in Corinthians as Paul talks about the body of Christ. The part that struck me most, is how some in a church feel no need to use the gifts God has given them to serve in the church. Even now, as I think about my own stepping back from some of my service at my church, I am concerned that I’m failing in being apart of the body. I do however think that being apart of the body of Christ is beyond the church local as we would typically think of church. I serve also with my gifts at my work place, which is also a place of ministry.
