God’s Mighty Power

Tuesday, July 11th, 2006

(Revelation 11:1-19) As I read through this passage this morning, my mind was filled with harsh pictures of what is to come in the end times. There is a part of me that has a fear of those things, but only in the things themselves, as a Christian I know that God is there to protect us. The promise at the end of this passage is that God will be rewarding those that are followers of Him. I think in part the sadness may come from seeing those that we know, that have chosen not to follow Him, falling into the punishment that God with have for them.

Unfailing Promises

(Hebrews 6:13-20) As I read this passage I came to two thoughts. One was the fact that there are still passages of scripture that I have a hard time understanding. When I say “understanding” I’m talking about really a confusion of how the words are put together, and just not being able to understanfd the thought that is being shared. Thr other thought that I had, or rather what I did see (my “sticking point”), was the fact that God gave Abraham an oath which was the highest form of promise.

Maturing in Faith

Monday, June 12th, 2006

(Hebrews 6:1-12) In this passage of Hebrews the people were being warned about not growing spiritually beyond their infancy as Christians. There is so much that God wants to teach us in life, more than we probably can even experience. If we are not seeking to learning more from God daily we’ll become stale Christians. We are even warned that if we stay too long in the infant stage of our faith in Christ, we risk the danger of falling back to where we came from. It is only through a maturing of our spiritual life that we can learn deeper and more profound things from God.

The Word As Our Guide

(Exodus 15:19-21) In today’s reading we find a few interesting things. We find a woman who is a prophet, she uses percussion in the music, and she dances before the Lord. What’s the big deal? Well let’s ask those churches who seem to forbid all three. It amazes me how even as Christians we decided to pick and choose what parts of the Bible we want to believe. The truth of His Word does not come from finding a way to see it how we want to see it. His truth comes from taking the entire Bible and it’s message into account. We can so easily begin to scrutinize, in detail, every passage and word of the Scriptures. Well it is not bad to look at Scripture in detail, we must also step back and look at the big picture. When churches begin to become so legalistic that their “rules” are not even Biblical, then this will ultimately serve to hurt the overall message. We need to always be careful how we share with others God’s truth.
