Who’s The Boss?

Wednesday, July 26th, 2006

(Numbers 17:1-13) Why is it that there is a natural tendency in us to resist, or question, the authority in our lives? The reality of it is that any authority in our lives is to be shown respect and followed, so long as that authority doesn’t cause us to go against God. God specifically commands us to follow the authority in our lives. The situation with Moses and the Isrealites is a perfect example of how God views authority.

Good or Bad Fruit

Thursday, July 20th, 2006

(Galatians 5:16-25) It is written in this passage some very real and evident ways to tell where people’s hearts are. I think sometimes we may have the application of the “good list” or Fruit of the Spirit backwards. At times I think we feel as Christians that we must work to show those fruits, working for the fruits themselves. This passage doesn’t say that we are to be working to attain those fruits, it says that the fruit of the SPIRIT are those things listed. Those fruits are produced as a result of where are hearts are. If we are simply following our sinful nature then it will be seen by what comes out of that. If we are following the leading of and work in our lives by the Holy Spirit then the result of that will be the fruit of the spirit.

Set Apart

Tuesday, June 20th, 2006

(Exodus 28:1-30) It was described in today’s passage how the priests were set apart both in how they looked, but also what they were called to. As Christians we are also called to be set apart, apart from the world that we live in. We are called to live in this world but not be of it. When those of us around us watch us they should know that we are different. We are not called to flaunt are difference but use it as a way to witness to others about what Christ has done for us.

The Word As Our Guide

Thursday, June 8th, 2006

(Exodus 15:19-21) In today’s reading we find a few interesting things. We find a woman who is a prophet, she uses percussion in the music, and she dances before the Lord. What’s the big deal? Well let’s ask those churches who seem to forbid all three. It amazes me how even as Christians we decided to pick and choose what parts of the Bible we want to believe. The truth of His Word does not come from finding a way to see it how we want to see it. His truth comes from taking the entire Bible and it’s message into account. We can so easily begin to scrutinize, in detail, every passage and word of the Scriptures. Well it is not bad to look at Scripture in detail, we must also step back and look at the big picture. When churches begin to become so legalistic that their “rules” are not even Biblical, then this will ultimately serve to hurt the overall message. We need to always be careful how we share with others God’s truth.
